-BJA

Crashing the Party!

It’s the time of the year, time to share the joys of laughter and good cheer as Katharine McPhee would say it.. It’s a perfect time for the Mavericks to celebrate. 31 Years you’ve waited the “Jet” Jason Terry shouted referring to the fans that stuck with team and supported the franchise who has not won a title for 31 years. Finally it’s their time. In front of a sold out crowd in American Airlines Arena the Mavericks raised their 2011 championship banner to the rafter. David Stern handed out the trophy to team owner Mark Cuban who gave out his speech and called out Head Coach Rick Carlisle. Carlisle Thank the other players who made the run possible (Chandler, Stevenson, Butler, Barrea) who now plays for other teams. And finally the Finals MVP Dirk greeted the crowd a Merry Christmas delivered his speech ending it with “This is a special day for all of us” and from there the rest is history!
An opening matchup like this, a rematch from last year’s Finals, the Mavs looked excited and determined to make this party even sweeter with a W.
But the boys from south beach have other plans. Putting aside the heart breaking lost last year, Miami started the season like a team on a mission, they look faster, and always one step ahead, 31 – 10 fast break point’s advantage Miami and their defense was superb limiting Dallas to 37% shooting from the field, Miami also out rebounded Dallas 51-31.
The final score doesn’t really tell the story of the game. It was pretty much over after 3 quarters. The Heat biggest lead was 35 points. Hammering down quarter after quarter, 21 – 4 run in the first quarter 17 – 1 run in the second and a 16 to 2 run in the 3rd. Dallas entered the fourth quarter trailing by 32 points 97 – 65. LeBron James broke the record for most points scored by a Heat player in season opener with 37 points the record was held before by Tim Hardaway with 32, James also had 10rebs 6asst 2stls and 2 blks. Wade and James combined for 63pts 18rebs and 12asst capped by a wonder alley-oop tip pass by James to Wade.
We saw the maturity of Miami stepping on the gas pedal from tip-off pressuring Dallas on both sides of the court not giving the Mavs any time to regroup. Heat players are now more familiar with each other and with a healthy Udonis Haslem Miami are ready to make another run at the title.
Mavericks are still in the stage of adjustment losing most of its core players last year and we saw the lack of chemistry this is their first game together with new faces like, West and Odom . It’s just 1 game but in a short season every game is important.
We saw a completely different Miami squad and they made sure that the message was heard loud and clear.

THE DREAM by THIEF OF HEARTS

Last night in my dreams
   I imagined you and I
  Dancing in the moonlight
Underneath a star filled sky.

 Your eyes seemed to glitter
In the darkness of the night
  Such a vision of beauty
In the moon's beaming light.

 We laughed and we smiled
  We were floating on air
 In our own little world
  With no one else there.

Our hearts filled with passion
    And so much romance
   That we fell in love
In the midst of our dance.

  Then as the dream ended
  With a passionate kiss
It is you and that dance
   I will always miss.

Preview: Dallas Mavericks – Bryan Alcancia

Let’s take a look at Dallas and their quest to repeat.

Mavericks have lost key players such as Tyson Chandler (Knicks), Caron Butler (Clippers), JJ Barea (T-Wolves) via free agency or trades, and for Me those are blows for the team’s quest in defending the title. We know that the Mavs are looking to clear some cap space for next year’s class of free agents that includes Dwight Howard and Chris Paul. But the question is, do they have enough assets to lure those big names and hear them say “I want to play in Texas!?”  Every team will make a move for those star players; Lakers traded Odom for an $8.9 million trade exception, as well as a protected first-round picks. If you watch Kobe’s interview, when asked what is his reaction.  He was furious about the trade, because the Lakers got nothing in return, but the move by the Lakers Management gave them a more flexible cap room and some first round picks to add to that if a sign and trade would be present. On top of every teams list are Superstars Dwight Howard and Chris Paul. Lakers are clearing up some space in order for them to offer a max contract. Teams will try. We are talking about 2 players in their prime, best in their position. Of course everyone will their shot. My point for Dallas is this; if it’s not broken don’t fix it. They are not sure if they can get Howard or Paul, but one thing is sure, they can win a championship with the group they had. They are the reigning champs. They have arguably the best Power forward in the game today (I think He is the best PF in the game today) the ageless Jason Kidd reliable as always, they’ve got one of the deepest rosters in the NBA, with Barea, Marion, Stevenson, Peja, Haywood, Chandler and the “Jet” Jason Terry they are in good shape to repeat. They have not tried anything to match offers for Chandler and Barea, there is always a way. Mark Cuban knows that. They won their first title in franchise history last year. We saw how they dominated L.A and gave the Heat lots of problems. Because everyone knew their role. Chandler is there to make sure that there is no easy lay-ups and drives to the basket, Barea will come off the bench sometimes start, play the point or play alongside Kidd and score and be a pest for the other teams defense, but now, I think its back to the drawing board. Yes they have acquired great players in Lamar Odom, a very versatile Small Forward, Vince Carter who has some 20 point game left in him and the playoffs tested combo guard Delonte West, they will get their minutes, but how many games would it take for them to be back in championship shape it’s a shorten season, only 66 games to be played in the regular season, They are the defending champs and a major line-up adjustment like this will take time. Chemistry will play a major factor. But with Carter, Odom, West all battle tested veteran maybe the adjustments will be quick. It’ll better be.  Because they have to win now! OKC Thunder is pretty much intact; with last year’s scoring champ KD leading the way. Clippers are young and athletic and we know how the Grizzlies ousted number 1 seed Spurs. Golden State is starting a new era with Mark Jackson preaching defense. Lakers still has Kobe and Spurs still got Tim Duncan, Ginobli, Tony Parker and Pop. No time for Dallas to figure things out because these teams will do everything to take them down. I hope they can sign either Paul or Howard, but if not, their place up there won’t be too long.

Dallas Mavericks early blows, as they try to defend 2011 crown. – Bryan Alcancia

Hooplah

First Dallas lost Caron Butler, who was out last season due to knee surgery, to the Clippers. The savvy vet was very effective before going down with the injury averaging 15 pts/Game. The 31 year old Butler signed a 3 year $ 27 Million contract with the Clippers. Butler is known to be scorer and also a potent defender. Butler will now help the high flying front line of Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan (if He signs with the clips reports says Clippers match the offer sheet sent by Golden State)

Then the Mavs lost Big man Tyson Chandler via trade with the NY Knicks. Chandler, who anchored the Dallas D last year, is now teaming up with Carmelo and Amareand will play a big role in what the team lacks of - defense! Tyson Chandler will bring tenacity in defensive blocking shots and taking chargesand will give some thunderous slams from time to time. Everything is so bright in The Big Apple.

Now, JJ Barea is close to signing with the T-Wolves, Barrea was a revelation especially in the playoffs shooting 3’s and penetrating the lane, lay-ups drawing fouls. Ask Bynum about it when he close lined Barrea in midairin the Lakers Game 4 loss to Dallas, the Mavs swept L.A in the Western Conference Semi-Finals. Andin the Finals Barrea dribble penetrated his way to the hoop against the number 2 overall defense in the league and played big in crucial stages of the game hitting Big shot after big shot as the Mavs captured their first NBA title by defeating the Heat 4-2.Barrea is feeling betrayed after the Mavs did not offer an extension before the start of this season..

Dallas won it all last year, but with most of its core players leaving. It will be a struggle, but we’ll never know. Mark Cuban is still Mark Cuban!

Dallas vs Thunder Game 1 - Bryan Alcancia

Different paths for these two teams going to their match up in the Western Conference Finals.

Dallas Mavericks dominated the defending champs sweeping the Lakers 4-0.

Dallas is very well rested, which benefits the likes of Kidd and Marion.

While Thunder has to go through 7 grueling matches with the very tough Memphis squad, the Thunder got the reward of facing Dallas at the Western Conference Finals.

Not like in the East Finals, this two clubs will fire it from all angels with the league leading scorer scorching Memphis in Game 7 for 39 points and Dallas tying the league record hitting 23 treys in the clinching game 4 massacre of the Lakers. I don’t see this series not having a team score 100 points in all of the games they are going to play.

Who will provide the defense?

The Defense will be provided by the Front court of both squads.

The Thunder upgraded its frontline by adding veteran Big Man in Kendrick Perkins (that’s for LA) and Mohamed, Ibaka has blocked shots here and there averaging 4 blocks a game only Mutombo has done that. Dallas has Tyson Chandler who has been the key for Dallas limiting the production of the opponents Big Man and has been one of top Defensive player in this season; they also have Brendan Haywood whose length is very much vital in contesting shots at the rim by the likes of Westbrook, Harden and Durant.

Let’s admit it that there is no stopping Kevin Durant and Dirk Nowitzki in these series but the team who holds either Durant or Dirk below 30 points has a good shot of winning the game.

This series will be very exciting to watch because of the ability of both teams to put up points.

Dallas is leading 92 – 81, 10 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter..

Bulls 103 – Miami 82, Recap – Bryan Alcancia

Today Tom Tom Thibodeau showed why his team is the number 1 defense; forcing Miami to take off-balance and hurried shots. 15 points for LeBron, 5 out of 15 shooting and Wade 18 points on 7 out of 17 shooting that’s 12 out of 32 shooting for those two stars that  just won’t get it done for Miami. The Bulls Front court challenge every shot at the rim (blocking some of them) and made sure LeBron and Dwayne earn every point that they get.

They also prevent easy baskets for Miami in transition which is one of Miami’s bread and butter, the Heat make the opposition pay for making turnovers turning it to easy points. But Chicago protected the ball very well in today’s game  only turning the ball over just 9 times compare to the 16 of Miami.

The bench was just superb for the Bulls outscoring Miami’s bench 28 to 15.

19 offensive rebounds for the Bulls giving them 19 extra possessions just killed Miami. Omer Asik and Taj Gibson Noah and Boozer just dominated Miami’s Bigs.

Mr. MVP had a great game tallying 28 points and Loul Deng added 21.

One of the few bright spots for the Heat is the performance of All Star Forward, Chris Bosh with 30 points and 9 boards.

Wade look tired walking to the bench the end of the 3rd quarter, guarding D-Rose and trying to create shots for his team maybe the reason for that.

The Heat played good defense for only two quarters, they have to match the intensity of the Bulls for 48 minutes (or more) in order for them to have a shot in this series.

Game 2 at Chicago on Wednesday, that’s Thursday here in the Philippines.
