Let’s take a look at Dallas and their quest to repeat.
Mavericks have lost key players such as Tyson Chandler (Knicks), Caron Butler (Clippers), JJ Barea (T-Wolves) via free agency or trades, and for Me those are blows for the team’s quest in defending the title. We know that the Mavs are looking to clear some cap space for next year’s class of free agents that includes Dwight Howard and Chris Paul. But the question is, do they have enough assets to lure those big names and hear them say “I want to play in Texas!?” Every team will make a move for those star players; Lakers traded Odom for an $8.9 million trade exception, as well as a protected first-round picks. If you watch Kobe’s interview, when asked what is his reaction. He was furious about the trade, because the Lakers got nothing in return, but the move by the Lakers Management gave them a more flexible cap room and some first round picks to add to that if a sign and trade would be present. On top of every teams list are Superstars Dwight Howard and Chris Paul. Lakers are clearing up some space in order for them to offer a max contract. Teams will try. We are talking about 2 players in their prime, best in their position. Of course everyone will their shot. My point for Dallas is this; if it’s not broken don’t fix it. They are not sure if they can get Howard or Paul, but one thing is sure, they can win a championship with the group they had. They are the reigning champs. They have arguably the best Power forward in the game today (I think He is the best PF in the game today) the ageless Jason Kidd reliable as always, they’ve got one of the deepest rosters in the NBA, with Barea, Marion, Stevenson, Peja, Haywood, Chandler and the “Jet” Jason Terry they are in good shape to repeat. They have not tried anything to match offers for Chandler and Barea, there is always a way. Mark Cuban knows that. They won their first title in franchise history last year. We saw how they dominated L.A and gave the Heat lots of problems. Because everyone knew their role. Chandler is there to make sure that there is no easy lay-ups and drives to the basket, Barea will come off the bench sometimes start, play the point or play alongside Kidd and score and be a pest for the other teams defense, but now, I think its back to the drawing board. Yes they have acquired great players in Lamar Odom, a very versatile Small Forward, Vince Carter who has some 20 point game left in him and the playoffs tested combo guard Delonte West, they will get their minutes, but how many games would it take for them to be back in championship shape it’s a shorten season, only 66 games to be played in the regular season, They are the defending champs and a major line-up adjustment like this will take time. Chemistry will play a major factor. But with Carter, Odom, West all battle tested veteran maybe the adjustments will be quick. It’ll better be. Because they have to win now! OKC Thunder is pretty much intact; with last year’s scoring champ KD leading the way. Clippers are young and athletic and we know how the Grizzlies ousted number 1 seed Spurs. Golden State is starting a new era with Mark Jackson preaching defense. Lakers still has Kobe and Spurs still got Tim Duncan, Ginobli, Tony Parker and Pop. No time for Dallas to figure things out because these teams will do everything to take them down. I hope they can sign either Paul or Howard, but if not, their place up there won’t be too long.
